It is the sound of water churning in the dark
dark distance that, through the glass,
is my peace.
I smell ginger and cinnamon
and pepper and garlic
with each breath, the spirit of wood and fabric
Liquor enough.

She fancies us children
in a house of infants,
all grown,
forgotten
that deep deep inside.
They are all young as us,
wide eyed naive as us,
not quite as bold as us,
they twice as old as us.
We just as young,
just as knowing
as not knowing,
just as wanting.
She fancies us children,
knowing better,
knowing less.

my head throbs
the computer hums and clicks and whines
my neighbor’s music a dull ache in my back

deftly, deftly creep the velvet vines,
braid the hoary tower tall
softly, softly feather the blossoms all,
sweet as bittersweet wine
