Breeze

testing he touched the edge of her patience
she winced where his gentle prodding burned
shouting she fought through his cotton ears
but he drove outside up the hill and turned
to a place where friendly words were passed

naught met their ears

Dynamo

just as in the heart of a machine
where the stark contrast of opposite poles
electrons’ reversed movement
drives the dynamo
that makes it move
on my hand, a dark stain spreads
where the ebony travels
down corridors in my palm
hallways so narrow that, from this height,
blend to a grey haze
i am crosshatched
and the chasm between

Velvet blanket darkness

Vapor trail behind her, she moved so fast
I saw the glimmer of sunset on her wingtips
Like dewdropped leaves, echoes rippled past
And when it was silent again, she walked
Alongside me in the velvet blanket darkness

Pricked our soles though lightly we stepped,

These teeth which chatter on
about this man
and these legs
which step back and forth
in shoes
worn only for a week or so
grate like crow’s cries
against my veins.
Your basket.
Your carpet.
Your lives,
your machines.
And I breathe
with this dull ache
in one side.
Sharp twinge
on the other.
The pleasant haze of Saturday afternoon,
where out the lush
greenery of man-made jungles
stands forth crumbling
